Recently, MATT program analyst Jonathan Peterson-Ruiz had the opportunity to attend the 109th Annual Convention of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in San Antonio, Texas. The convention served as a meeting point for African-Americans across the country to discuss civil rights. The theme of the conference this year was “Defeat Hate Vote”.
It included legal education seminars, youth workshops, legislative debates, and public policy at the federal level, a hip-hop summit, and a professional diversity fair. “It was a real pleasure to learn new ways to promote civic engagement in our communities. While technology and data are useful tools to get people involved, nothing is more successful than the interacting person to person, ” said Peterson-Ruiz.
