PUNISHING THE LOS ANGELES POLICE

One of the greatest shames of the recent round of immigration rallies was not the lower turnout compared to a year before, but rather the unacceptable police brutality that occured during one major event in Los Angeles a week ago. But the city, through its police chief and maor, appears to be handling the situation. The chief has publicly apologized and has punished some of the officers involved with the incident.

The Los Angeles Times reports today: "
The action comes as officials attempt to quell outrage over videotaped images of LAPD officers swinging batons and firing nearly 150 'less-than-lethal' rounds at reporters and largely peaceful protesters last Tuesday."

The Washington Post's Sonya Geis reports today that, "Los Angeles Police Chief William J. Bratton demoted one top officer and reassigned another Monday, the department's first act of punishment after police used batons and rubber bullets on immigration-rights protesters last week.
"

L.A. mayor Antonio Villaraigosa was out of the country the day of the rally, but returned to demonstrate control of the situation, The New York Times reports today.

The L.A. Times has a front page story today that details the events and actions that led up to the violent confrontation.

It's a shame the illegal aliens acted so badly and forced the police into defending themselves. The illegals need to go back where they came from.
