Now you can help spur Mexico's economy and create new jobs by helping the working poor grow their businesses.
"I support your good work for numerous reasons, but the opportunity to send money to entrepreneurs in Mexico --while our unimaginative government purports to build a fence -- has been particularly sweet. Can't thank you enough,” - Lisa K. Buchanan
Now you can help spur Mexico's economy and create new jobs by helping the working poor grow their businesses.
The Power of Microfinance
In 1976, Bangladeshi economist Muhammad Yunus set up a new kind of bank designed to lend to the very poorest in his native country. Targeting women in particular, Micro Loans allowed them to start up small businesses without collateral. In doing so, he pioneered Micro-credit, a system that has since been adopted by more than 100 nations. In October of 2006, Yunus and his Grameen bank won the Nobel Peace Prize for their grassroots efforts to lift millions out of poverty.
MATT.org
Partners With Kiva
Based on the proven success of Microfinance,
MATT.org
has partnered with
Kiva
to let you connect with and loan money to unique small businesses in Mexico. By choosing a business on
MATT.org
, you help the working poor make great strides towards economic independence. Throughout the course of the loan (usually 6-12 months), you can receive email journal updates from the business you've sponsored. And as loans are repaid, you get your loan money back.
How it Works
MATT.org
,
Kiva, and
ADMIC
, an existing Microfinance institution in Mexico with over 25 years of experience have partnered to gain access to outstanding entrepreneurs from impoverished communities in Mexico. Our partners are experts in choosing qualified borrowers who are short on funds. Borrower profiles are uploaded directly to
MATT.org
so you can easily lend to them. A common misconception is that lenders won't get their money back; nothing could be further from the truth. Yunus' Grameen Bank, for example, has a recovery rate of
98.85%
. And to date, Kiva's repayment rate is an incredible
100%
.
We Show You Where Your Money Goes
MATT.org
and
Kiva
provide a data-rich lending platform for enterprising businesspeople. We are constantly working to make the system more transparent to show how money flows throughout the entire cycle. Here's how money gets from you to a borrower in Mexico and back:
- You pick a business and make a loan with your credit card.
-
We transfer funds to local partners, which disburse the
loans to the chosen business recipient.
-
Over time, the partner collects repayments and provides
business updates.
-
Funds are returned to you without interest, at which point
you can choose to re-loan or withdraw.
We Facilitate Connections
MATT.org
and
Kiva
are using the power of the Internet to facilitate one-to-one connections. Thanks to the instant, inexpensive nature of Internet transactions, our unique Micro-lending system creates an interpersonal connection at a low cost. The individuals featured on our web site are real people who need a loan and are waiting for socially minded individuals like you to lend them money so they can build their businesses.
