NC Policy to Admit Undocumented Students is Reversed

May 15, 2008

North Carolina banned a policy enacted in November that allowed undocumented students to attend Community Colleges. The President of the Community College System has decided to disregard advice from the federal government as well as North Carolina’s Governor in order to abide by the opinions of North Carolina’s Attorney General. The Attorney General recently released a letter denouncing the policy allowing those students to attend. Anti-immigrant activiists are applauding the move and saying that North Carolina has the strictest policy regarding undocumented students and higher education. They also say that other states will start to follow North Carolina’s lead and enforce similar policies, denying students the priviledge of higher education.
