DREAM Act Talking Points

MATT.org

The DREAM Act is an important element of Comprehensive Immigration Reform - use the talking points below or write your own letter and contact your members of Congress to urge them to support the DREAM Act as part of CIR.

•    I am writing to urge you to become a co-sponsor of the DREAM Act, introduced in both the House and Senate on March 26 by Members from both parties.  The DREAM Act is a key component of Comprehensive Immigration Reform, as it would create an opportunity for immigrant children who are undocumented to stay in the U.S. with legal status if they meet certain conditions and pursue higher education or military service.

•    The DREAM Act will help young people who had no choice in coming to the U.S. as children, but were brought here by their parents - all they know is life as an American.  Since then, they have established their lives here and are poised to contribute to our communities through high educational attainment or military service.

•    The DREAM Act is an investment in America’s future.  Allowing these promising young people to continue their education or to serve in the military will enable them to continue making meaningful contributions to America as taxpayers and future leaders. These young people have great potential, and America will benefit if they are allowed to contribute to our nation and our economy.

•    The DREAM Act is an essential component of a broader effort that will be needed to bring sensible reform to our current immigration laws.  As we anticipate the start of that broader debate in Congress, I urge you to support and co-sponsor the DREAM Act as a step towards comprehensive immigration reform. I look forward to working with you for sensible, comprehensive immigration reform that will keep America secure and strong.
